How to Configure an Email Account in Thunderbird

To add a new email account through Mozilla Thunderbird select Tools along the top left menu > Account Settings.

Near the bottom left there is an Account Actions dropdown.

Select Add Mail Account from said dropdown.

Fill in the following fields:
  • Your Name:
  • Email Address:
  • Password:
Now select Continue and shortly after click Manual Config.

At this point you need to decide whether you're looking to setup your email account as IMAP or POP3. Not sure which one to pick? See this knowledgebase article.

Populate the Mail Account Setup fields with the appropriate details as follows:

Incoming Settings (IMAP or POP3):
POP3:
Account Type: POP3
Server Hostname: mail.tomahawk.ca
Port: 995
SSL: SSL/TLS
Authentication: Normal Password
IMAP:
Account Type: IMAP
Server Host Name: mail.tomahawk.ca
Port: 993
SSL: SSL/TLS
Authentication: Normal Password

**IMPORTANT**:
*Note: For IMAP only. Once you have the above and below outgoing details input select Advanced config, NOT Re-test or Done. Then go to the Server Settings section of the account you just added and change Connection Security from SSL/TLS to STARTTLS, then click okay. If this isn't done you won't be able to connect or setup proper security authentication.
Outgoing Settings (SMTP):
Server Hostname: mail.tomahawk.ca
Port: Manually type "366"
SSL: STARTTLS
Authentication: Normal Password
